In Greece, 15 August is a national Public holiday. It is the Summer holidays and as such lot of the people are on holidays as the schools and some businesses are closed for this season. Although we haven't gone for our official Summer holiday yet, we decided to take a mini road-trip. Needless to say the scenery was spectacular and the beaches along this coastline were magnificent. Every now and then we will stop , have something to eat or a have a quick splash in the water.
The first stop was at an Archeological site in Sounia, with a view so picturesque!!!
It was extremely windy up there as this archeological site is situated so high up. It is mind blowing that we were surrounded by blue water so vast.
With waters so blue you are tempted to go for a swim and why not go to the nearest beach, Anavisos, for a swim. First my Bestie, Ivhan wanted to get in on the action and it was soooo much fun.
And then its time for another town, Varkisa. here they have so many things to do and so many small restaurants lined up. After all it, was time to have a proper meal, as we had been only been snacking for a while.
As you can see, while eating you have this entire view in front of you. It is so refreshing and relaxing and the food tastes a whole lot better, LOL. You will find these local taverna's ( small Greek restaurants) everywhere in Greece. They serve all kinds of local dishes. I love it because I am a vegetarian. It's not easy to grab a hamburger or such. I had gemista(stuffed peppers and tomatoes-without mince meat). Very delicious!!!!
Even the doggy got in on the action.
I've noticed that this area has a long promenade where the locals stroll with their dogs and mothers with the baby strollers. There is also a small park for children to play. It is perfect to take a stroll after such a heavy meal before getting on to the road again.
As they say ALL good things come to an end, we left this place and the next stop was for coffee and dessert at a town nearer to our hometown. It was delightful. I will definitely do this more often and share my experiences with all of You.
